Living History Camp
Clann Nan Con was founded in 1998 by a group of Civil War Reenactors
looking for a new challenge. the clan name is Gaelic for "Clan of the
Dog." Our motto is "Uaireigin Cu, Daonnan Cu" (Once a dog, always a
dog). Our clansmen have attended reenactments, treks, encampments &
games in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio & Pennsylvania.
The goals of the organization are two-fold. First, we want to honor our Scottish ancestors. Second, we want to accurately portray the Scottish Highlanders of the 1730's & 1740's, an era of great turmoil, both in Scotland & the colony of Georgia.
Crimean War Quilt Military Quilts Also known as Soldiers' Quilts, and
Crimean Quilts, were generally made from 1850 to after the turn of the
Century. The quilt shown to the right is made of military fabric, and was
probably sewn by a convalescing soldier during the period 1854-1856. The
quilt itself measures 8 X 10 feet, and is made of uniform wool.
Crimean quilts were sewn by soldiers recovering from wounds, and varied in design and colours.
The owners of the quilt shown above believe it may have been made by a Welshman, and a signature appearing to be "B. Brandon" appears on the obverse side. Her Britannic Majesty's Own will be at the 8th Annual Foothill Highland Games, Hendersonville, North Carolina on 1 November, 2008 and will have the quilt on display. We are indebted to Joen and Bill Goodman of Hendersonville for allowing us to offer you a chance to see this fine antique quilt. Below is a picture of
"Mushka" and Major D'Arlynn at the 2007 Foothill Highland Games.
