SEPTEMBER MEETING
The September 24 meeting will be at 6:30 PM at Maplewood.
Dorothy Swick will be doing a program on Batikking Fabric.
We had two guests at the August guild meeting. Mae Rakestraw, a guest of Mary Lanham, gave an impromptu program on making an autumn table runner. Copies of her pattern will be available at the September meeting. The second guest was Sarah Patterson, a resident of Maplewood. She showed blue and white cross stitch quilt blocks. She needed someone to assemble them. Pat Gray is working on Sarah's quilt.
OCTOBER AUCTION
Hopefully everyone is stitching, like busy little bees. In October, we will invite the public to an auction. Please, bring other handcrafted items such as baskets, knitted items, woodwork items and etc., as well as quilt and sewing projects to be auctioned off.
QUILT SHOW
The guild thanks Karen Betler, Becky Forinash, and Dorothy Swick for serving as the Quilt Show executive committee for the past three years. They have done a wonderful job of organizing the show. An extra "thank you" to Karen for serving as the Quilt Show Chairman. They are stepping aside to give other members a chance to serve, but they will be available to help with the 2008 show.
Tana Hall will be the new Quilt Show Chairman. Anyone who is interested in retaining her present committee role, please contact Tana. She will be organizing new committees at the September guild meeting.
Pictures of the new raffle quilt will be available at the September meeting.
JACKSON'S MILL JUBILEE QUILT SHOW
Congratulations to several members of the Millennium Quilters who won ribbons at the Jackson's Mill Jubilee Quilt Show. Edith Shaver won Best of Show, for a quilt different from the one she won Best of Show at the Millennium Quilters Show.
Betty Bond won a ribbon for her baby quilt, and Sarah Patterson won second place for her needle work quilt. Although she did not win any ribbons, Karen Betler's quilt was the topic of conversation at the Bridgeport Library. Several staff members and patrons had seen her quilt , loved it, and talked about it at the library. The Millennium Quilters Raffle Quilt was shown at the Jubilee.
FAT QUARTER DRAWING
Winner of the: Hot Summer Fat Quarters was Betty Bond. Laurie Salser has chosen the theme for September's fat quarters to be: Back to School - any fabric that reminds you of going back to school. Please bring two - one for the 2008 Quilt Show basket and one for the drawing. The theme for October is Halloween.
MONTHLY DOOR PRIZE
This year we are trying something different. If it's your birthday month, you bring a door prize worth not less than $5.00 and no more than $10.00. For example if you have a July birthday you bring a door prize to the July meeting. If we have three people bringing prizes we will have three drawings. The door prizes may be purchased or you can go through your sewing room (or chocolate) stash and put together a "goodie bag" of whatever. Please wrap them or put them in a bag. Members having August birthdays and bringing birthday door prizes were Becky Smolski, Denise Lantz, Cindy Buffington, Tana Hall, and Mary Lanham. Happy Birthday to you! One of the members brought two door prizes. The winners of the door prizes were Rita Miles, Jackie Harper, Sarah Patterson, Sarah Jones, birthday girl Mary Lanham, and Betty Bond.
BLOCK OF THE MONTH
We started the Block of the Month in February. This project will run for twenty months. A twelve inch finished size block was decided on. In other words we will be making twelve and a half inch blocks each month, and we will each keep our own blocks to make into a quilt. The August block was furnished by Betty Bond. If you have missed a block Patsy Glotfelty will have extra copies of the patterns.
NATIONAL QUILT DAY
Sharon Kinney will be in charge of the National Quilt Day baby quilt for 2008. National Quilt Day is the third Saturday in March.
FORT NEW SALEM
Helen Jones has asked us to make a quilt top for Fort New Salem. She will have someone machine quilt it, when we are finished with the top. The backing and batting have been donated. The guild decided at the July picnic to do a Log Cabin design, with red centers and cream and blue logs. The quilt will be auctioned on the Fort Salem’s web site. Cindy Buffington, Becky Forinash, Mae Rakestraw, and Eleanor MacLean gathered for the Fort New Salem Quilt work session on September 8. Becky sewed, Cindy and Eleanor cut, and Mae pressed the strips. They also watched the WVU-Marshall football game. Many Maplewood residents stopped by to chat and view the progress of the quilt.
We be will having another sewing session September 22 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, at Maplewood, to finish the quilt top for the fort. Please come! Members do not have to bring fabric as previously announced.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
From: Fat Quarter Quilter’s Newsletter - September 8, 2007
Okay, there is a myth on the internet. There is an infamous recipe that has circulated on the web. It is sometimes known as Mrs. Field's recipe or Nordstrom's recipe or the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe. The recipe is NOT from any of these sources, but I will tell you, it is a great recipe. I make it myself and these cookies are amazing. I don't know who to credit it with, but I will say that it is one great cookie recipe:
I call it, The Urban Kitchen Legend Recipe and well, it is delicious!
Cream together: 2 cups of butter, 1-1/2 cups of sugar, 1-1/2 cups of brown sugar
Add: 4 eggs, 1 tablespoon of real vanilla extract
In your food processor: ( I suppose you could use a blender, but I use the food processor)
Process 5 cups of uncooked regular oatmeal. Once it is finely ground, (it will look like flour) mix in 4 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of baking powder and 2 teaspoons of baking soda.
Mix all of your ingredients together.
Add: 1 24 oz bag of chocolate chips
1 finely chopped up bar of fine chocolate
2 cups of chopped nuts (optional). I use almonds.
Use un-greased cookie sheets.
Make golf-ball sized cookies and place them on cookie sheet 2" apart. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes.
